The Art Of Escapism

I’ve spent the weekend with one of my best friends, Kirsty, (the one I’m making the unicorn for) in rural Wales, and have some pictures to share!

It’s been completely spur of the moment. A few weeks ago, I was feeling a bit low and needed to get away, so my friend chose the cottage and location, and we decided to head off for the weekend and escape from the world! And we definitely did that!!

Driving above the clouds, in the Brecon Beacons

We were staying in a house, just outside a TINY village called Crugybar, which is in Carmarthenshire. Decided to drive through the Brecon Beacons on our way through, just so that Kirsty could see some mountains. The weather wasn’t great, and it rained heavily on and off, but hey…it is Wales!

Rhos Barn, and Rosie the Micra

We were staying in a beautiful barn conversion, called Rhos Barn, on a farm previously owned by musician Billy Fury. It was absolutely stunning and we were cut off from everything! About 11 miles from any form of proper civilisation, unless you count sheep and farms, with absolutely no internet connection and very minimal phone signal (you could only pick up signal on my bedside cabinet).

After the journey, all we really wanted to do was veg out and watch films, so we had a pretty quiet evening. Getting into bed that night, was absolute bliss!

I loved waking up to this in the morning! Best view ever!

On Saturday, our only full day in Wales, we decided to drive out to Carmarthen, to visit the market and also just to see the area a bit. We spent two hours in the town, grabbed some lunch, and then set out to try and find Cardigan Bay. However, my satnav decided that she was going to send us in multiple directions and we got very lost. Gave up after a few hours and went back to the cottage to chill out haha!

After another night in my amazing, comfy bed, it was time to leave and start heading home. Had a leisurely morning, packing our things away and making sure the house looked ok and the owners wouldn’t have to clean much. I went out in the frost with my professional camera and took some photos, to pass some time while Kirsty got her things together…

“You came all the way to Wales, to take pictures of moss?!”

We decided from the very beginning, that we wanted to make a whole day of the journey home. So we set off late and drove back via the Brecon Beacons again, although on a different road this time.

After getting lost, yet again (who gets lost with a satnav???) we finally managed to find our way to see Pen Y Fan, which is the highest point in South Wales, and is absolutely stunning. We spent a little while at the information centre, admiring the view, before setting off through the mountains again.

Our journey eventually ended after about 6hrs, because we got diverted through Bristol and then villages, due to a massive accident on the M5 on Friday evening. Dropped Kirsty home, and then came home to collapse myself!

And here I am, now reminiscing on a fantastic weekend away with one of my top ladies, waiting for 21:00, when I start work. Oh I am so tired, but so happy haha!
